Adriana Lecouvreur

A new production of Adriana Lecouvreur was first presented on the occasion of the National Day of the Principality of Monaco in 2017 and was subsequently revived at the historic Teatro di San Carlo in Naples in June 2026.

Davide Livermore stages the work of Francesco Cilea by recreating the figure of the 18th century Diva in homage to the divas of the early years of the 20th century and in particular Sarah Bernhardt. Protagonist also, for once, the war projected to the foreground of the story and which makes it more credible.

Taking place largely at the French Theater, the plot is a crossover of romantic relationships, alcove secrets, rivalries and jealousies.

The background and the form converge in removable spaces with the use of a rotating or circulating plate along the entire length of the stage. The artists themselves do not have to move, they move in spite of themselves while the scenography is saturated with black with glimpses of color with chiaroscuro to dominate the scene.
