20/04/2026 – AlUla Development Company Commences Construction of NUMAJ

NUMAJ, a 250-key hotel deign by Gio Forma expected to open in 2027

The milestone was marked during a site visit attended by John Pagano, Managing Director of UDC, and Abeer AlAkel, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), together with senior leadership representatives.

John Pagano, Managing Director of UDC, said: “NUMAJ marks a clear step forward in our delivery agenda. As we move into construction, our focus is on executing high-quality, investment-ready developments that strengthen AlUla’s positioning, while shaping distinctive hospitality experiences that enhance its long-term appeal as a global destination and a vibrant community.”

The start of construction marks the transition of NUMAJ from vision to reality, reinforcing UDC’s role as the development and investment engine driving AlUla’s masterplan into world-class destinations in close collaboration with RCU.

Designed by Gio Forma, NUMAJ brings a new architectural vision to the destination. Inspired by AlUla’s dramatic landscapes, rich cultural heritage and celestial history, the project translates the site’s unique identity into a contemporary hospitality experience. The name NUMAJderives from the star system Nu Ursae Majoris, historically used as a guiding reference by ancient travelers, inspiring a design narrative centered on discovery, light and a profound connection to the landscape.

Developed by AlUla Development Company and set to be operated by Marriott International under the Autograph Collection Hotels brand, the 250-key hotel is scheduled to open in 2027.

The development will offer a curated hospitality experience that blends refined resort living with immersive cultural and lifestyle experiences. Guests will enjoy thoughtfully designed spaces inspired by AlUla’s identity, complemented by five dining destinations, wellness facilities, and integrated business and leisure amenities.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the design. Targeting LEED Gold certification, NUMAJ incorporates environmentally responsible strategies including greywater reuse for irrigation, locally sourced materials, UV-resistant glazing, water-efficient landscaping, and energy-conscious lighting aligned with AlUla’s Dark Sky policy.

NUMAJ further expands Gio Forma’s contribution to AlUla’s architectural identity while becoming part of UDC’s growing portfolio of developments transforming the region into a world-class destination for tourism, culture and investment. Through these projects, UDC supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by fostering sustainable tourism, attracting investment and driving economic diversification.
